My husband Dave and I started Achatz Handmade Pie Company from our home 25 years ago. Every week we’d bake a few dozen pies and set up at the local farmers' markets.
​Today, we and our team of over one hundred, run six beautiful pie shops serving the Metro Detroit area and our 20K square foot Bakehouse creating tens of thousands of pies in small batches each week. Yes, we’ve grown some! Our special Achatz artisanal pies are still made the old fashion way and are distributed to over 1,000 grocery stores and restaurants across the US and Canada. 




Take Your Product from Kitchen to Commerce 

Every week I produce another video sharing our business story. I speak of our humble beginnings baking from scratch in our home and  converting our back room into a certified commercial kitchen.  And I’ll talk about the decisions we had to make when we moved the operation from home to our first real Pie Shop/Bakery and how we hired taught and trained our first employees through trial and error. As our business progressed throughout the years, I landed an appointment at Whole Foods Market along with a few other major grocery chains. I'll tell you how things unrolled from there and the chains we said yes to and the ones we said no to. We’ve made a lot of decisions, some good, some bad and I look forward to sharing the lessons I have learned over my 25 years in the food business. I hope it will help and inspire you in some way whether you are starting your own business or are just interested in our Pie story.

Can you believe 2018 marks our 25th Thanksgiving here at Achatz Pies? A quarter of a century of pies shared on thousands of families holiday tables.

In 1993 when we started this little business from our home our children were ages 8, 6, 4, 2 and Zack was a newborn! Since, they’ve all grown into wonderful, intelligent and talented adults and moved away. Today, they all have come back and live within two miles of Dave and me. The circle of life!
We’ve been celebrating our 25th all year by bringing back some old favorite flavors called ‘Throw Backs” for a limited time. Some did so well and we received your feedback that we think we should put them back on the menu! Thank you for your feedback! We really appreciate it.
